Bulletin Boards
The Temple corridor bulletin boards located outside of the Library and the rabbis' studies are overflowing with announcements of exciting events and press releases of interest to the Jewish community. Be sure to stop by these bulletin boards on a regular basis.
"Temple Bulletin"
The primary vehicle for disseminating information to Temple Isaiah congregants is the Temple Bulletin, published monthly. The bulletin, which is automatically mailed to all Temple members, lists schedules for worship services, religious school, and auxiliary and committee events and status reports. In addition, the bulletin features insightful articles written by our rabbinic staff. It contains a form for donations to Temple funds, and acknowledges donors to each of the funds. Its submission deadline is the 1st day of each month for the following month's issue. Submissions may be sent by email to the editor [bulletin (at) templeisaiah.net] , or contact the editor to make other arrangements.
Sisterhood Bulletin
Temple Isaiah Sisterhood Newsletter is distributed to Sisterhood members six times a year. This bulletin disseminates Sisterhood-related information and contains a wonderful calendar of events. Submissions may be emailed to the editor: sisterhoodnews (at) templeisaiah.net.
"Weekly Digest"
The "Weekly Digest" is an email distributed to Temple members who have elected to receive it. It contains the current week's programs and events as well as information about upcoming programs and events. Temple members and staff can subscribe here.
"We Shall Not Forget!"
Several years ago Temple formed a discussion group for the sons and daughters of Holocaust survivors. Out of the discussions arose the need to memorialize the experiences in a permanent fashion in order to bear witness for all those who died and suffered. Toward that end we published We Shall Not Forget! Memories of the Holocaust.
We Shall Not Forget! Memories of the Holocaust, edited by Carole Garbuny Vogel, is a collection of 42 essays written by Holocaust survivors and sons and daughters of Holocaust survivors, each telling a story of family survival or destruction. The hardcover book is over 500 pages long, includes over 200 photographs, and contains an index to names, places, and events mentioned in the essays. The response to the first edition of We Shall Not Forget! was overwhelming. Within six weeks, all copies of the book were sold out. A second printing has been completed and the book is once again available for sale. Critical response to the book continues to be extraordinary. Elie Weisel has recommended the book- his commendation is reproduced on the second edition's back cover- and the book has been selected to be sold in the gift shop of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. We Shall Not Forget! has been favorably reviewed in Together and the Winter 1996 edition of Reform Judaism.
What distinguishes We Shall Not Forget! is that all the diverse and, at times, dramatic accounts come from members of a single congregation residing quietly in a comfortable suburb of Boston. The contributors had varying experiences; some had survived concentration and forced labor camps, some had hidden in different countries, and some had managed to escape in the nick of time with some or all of their families. Several are the children of survivors and wrote about how their parents' experiences affected them. Whatever their background, all had their lives tremendously affected by Hitler's persecution of the Jewish people.
When our book was written, it was with the hope that readers might learn from the true stories recounted that the events of the Holocaust should not be forgotten nor repeated. Since Deuteronomy commands us to remember, it seems especially appropriate to have copies of We Shall Not Forget! We hope that you find our book to be a welcome addition to your library.
Should you wish to order more copies, We Shall Not Forget! is available through Temple Isaiah, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum at (202-488-6136), or Blackwell North America, Inc., a book wholesaler, at (609-228-8900). The book has been priced for the general public at twenty-five dollars ($25.00). Should you have questions or want to order books, please contact the Temple Office.
