Board of Trustees
Acting under the By-Laws of Temple Isaiah, (pdf, 70kb) the congregation elects a Board of Trustees composed of a president and:
Vice Presidents
The Vice Presidents are Officers of the Temple, nominated by the Nominating Committee and elected by the Congregation. Each Vice President is responsible for a particular aspect of temple life, working with the cluster of committees and groups that function within that area. Vice Presidents serve on the Executive Committee. Their responsibilities include:

Below are the specific aspects of temple life assigned to each Vice President as well as the clusters of committees and activities that they will work with. These clusters and activities can be changed by the President in consultation with the Executive Committee and with the advice and consent of the board.
Where relevant, Sisterhood and Brotherhood can establish interfaces with specific clusters after consultation with the Temple President.
Vice President of Worship--oversees those groups that help to make Temple Isaiah a Spiritual Community

Vice President of Education--oversees those groups that advance Temple Isaiah's commitment to being a Community of Lifelong Learners
YET (Youth Education Team) Adult Ed Library LEFTY (Lexington Federation of Temple Youth) Also activities such as the preschool program
Vice President of Finance and Administration--oversees those groups charged with making Temple Isaiah an Organizationally Responsible Community.
The F&A vice president will also serve as chairman of the Finance Council.

Vice President of Programming--oversees groups that bring together members of Temple Isaiah to explore and celebrate the experience of Jewish Community

Vice President of Tikkun Olam--oversees groups that further Temple Isaiah's commitment to being a Just and Kind Community

Trustee
There are nine trustees. All are voting members of the board, nominated by the Nominating Committee and elected by the Congregation. Three trustees are elected each year to terms of three years. [For terms ending in 2007 and 2008 there are four trustees, reflecting the prior policy.]
The trustees shall serve collectively as the Strategic Planning Committee The trustees will be assigned specific duties based on their year of service: 1st year trustees will serve on the Membership Committee 2nd year trustees will serve on the Leadership Development and Nominating Committees 3rd year trustees will serve on the Mutual Review Committee, which will also include the President, First Vice President and a chairperson appointed by the President. The trustees will elect from among themselves a Lead Trustee, who will serve as chairperson of the Strategic Planning Committee and sit on the Executive Committee.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee will:
Coordinate efforts among the VP's and their committee clusters Assist and advise the President in carrying out the mission of the temple Provide a forum for discussion of temple issues, problems and developments Make recommendations to the Board as appropriate
Members will include:
President Vice Presidents The Lead Trustee Secretary Senior Rabbi as ex-officio member
Finance Council
The Finance Council brings together key members of the Temple financial community, operating much as the Executive Committee in the financial area.
Their job is to:
Keep a strong focus on the Temple's financial operations Coordinate the Temple's financial functions Ensure the long term financial strength of the Temple Ensure that the Temple has sufficient resources to fulfill its mission
Members include:
VP Finance and Admin (Chair) Development Chair Dues and Special Arrangements Chair (appointed by President) Treasurer Controller L'Dor Vador Chair President First Vice President
Nominating Committee
The nominating committee shall consist of:
3 members appointed by the President, including one designated to serve as chairman. The previous Nominating Committee chair shall be among the three. 3 members who are 2nd year Trustees 3 members nominated and elected at the Congregational meeting
The Nominating Committee will nominate candidates for all Temple offices, which shall include the President, trustees, vice presidents, secretary, treasurer, comptroller, and members of the L'Dor Vador Committee. It shall also nominate the First Vice President who shall be the intended successor to the president.
The Nominating Committee plays a critical role, ensuring the effective operation of the Temple by selecting individuals with the appropriate skills, values, integrity, energy, attitude, ruach, and who agree to work together in a team in fulfilling the Mission of the Temple.
Succession
One vice president will be elected to serve as First Vice President during his or her tenure as Vice President. The First Vice President may serve as vice president in any of the six vice presidential areas. After serving for two years as First Vice President, this person will become president upon election by the congregation In selecting the next First Vice President, the nominating committee will first consider sitting vice presidents.
Temple Board:
The Temple Board shall consist of all voting members of the board plus all committee chairs. The voting members of the board shall consist of:

Eligibility
Eligibility for membership on the Board of Trustees is reserved to those of the Jewish faith who are also members in good standing of the Temple. If the president of an auxiliary organization (Brotherhood, Sisterhood or LEFTY) does not qualify, the next most senior officer of that organization who meets these qualifications will assume a seat on the Board of Trustees.
Responsibility
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the general management of the affairs, funds and properties of the congregation. They act on all matters of policy; hold responsibility for the hiring and firing of personnel; control revenue, investments and expenditures and promote the welfare and best interests of the congregation.
Meetings
The Board of Trustees meets regularly on the third Thursday evening of each month (with the exception of July) at 7:30p.m. in the double upstairs classroom. All Temple members are invited to attend these meetings. Dates shift occasionally; check with the Office.
Clergy
Temple Isaiah's rabbis and cantor provide complete liturgical, spiritual and counseling services for the Temple membership. They actively participate in the educational process for both adults and children, work with the auxiliaries and provide support and direction to the many Temple committees, cultural programs and social action projects.
